5 best AirForShare alternatives in 2026
AirForShare is brilliantly simple — but its free tier caps files at 5 MB (2 at a time), deletes everything after about 30 minutes, and shows what you share to anyone on the same network. If you've hit any of those walls, these five free alternatives fix them.

Why people switch from AirForShare
AirForShare's idea is great: open a website on two devices on the same Wi‑Fi and share text or files, no account. Its limits are the problem — per its own listing (checked Oct 21, 2026):
- 5 MB per file, 2 files at once on the free tier (10 MB / 5 files with a free account) — too small for a single photo from a modern phone.
- ~30-minute expiry — step away and your share is gone.
- Shared with the whole network: anyone on the same router can see what you post unless you pay for Private Mode. On office, campus or café Wi‑Fi, that's everyone in the building.
- Same network only — no way to reach a device on mobile data or in another city.

Checked Oct 21, 2026. "Live transfer" tools need both devices online at once, so no stored limit applies. Tell us if a number is stale.
1. AirToShare — same idea, 100× the file size, private
AirToShare works exactly the way AirForShare users expect — open the site on two devices on the same Wi‑Fi and they find each other — but removes the walls: 500 MB per file with resumable upload, shares that are private to you rather than broadcast to the whole network, and expiry you control (24 hours as a guest, up to 30 days with a free account) instead of a 30-minute timer.
It also does what AirForShare can't: share beyond your network via link, QR code or a 6-character Room, protect shares with a password or one-time download, and end-to-end encrypt text. For the classic AirForShare use case — "get this text/file onto the other computer" — the online clipboard works the same way too.
2. PairDrop — peer-to-peer in the browser
PairDrop (the maintained Snapdrop fork) transfers files directly between two browsers — nothing is stored anywhere, so there's no fixed size cap. It shares text too, and pairing codes let devices see each other across networks. The trade-off: both devices must stay online during the transfer, and there's no stored link to open later.
3. LocalSend — the private, offline choice
Open-source apps for every platform, direct device-to-device transfer with no server and no internet needed, at full network speed. The opposite trade-off from AirForShare: perfectly private, but every device needs the app installed — no good on a shared office PC or someone else's phone.
4. ShareDrop — minimal browser P2P
Another no-install, Snapdrop-style web app: devices on the same network drag files to each other, peer-to-peer, and a room link extends it across networks. Files only — no text sharing — and development is quiet, but for a quick drop between two browsers it works.
5. The built-ins: AirDrop and Quick Share
If both devices are phones or same-ecosystem, you may not need a website at all: AirDrop for Apple, Quick Share for Android (and Android-to-Windows via the Quick Share PC app). Since late 2025, Quick Share on newer Pixels and select 2026 flagships even exchanges files with AirDrop directly. The gaps AirForShare-style tools still fill: iPhone-to-Windows, older phones, and any device where you can't install anything.
FAQ
What's the best AirForShare alternative for text?
AirToShare's online clipboard — paste on one device, read on the other, with optional end-to-end encryption so not even the server can read it. PairDrop also sends text messages device-to-device.
Is AirForShare safe on public Wi‑Fi?
Its own listing warns that anyone connected to the same router can grab what you share on the free tier. On café, campus or office networks, use a tool with private, link-based shares instead.
Which alternative needs no install at all?
AirToShare, PairDrop and ShareDrop all run entirely in the browser, like AirForShare itself. LocalSend needs apps; AirDrop and Quick Share are built into the OS.
